Yes, its Turkey Time once again and VHS Rewind is back with its Thanksgiving way-back machine: in this episode, we taking you back in time to relive the 1991 Thanksgiving Day Parade (courtesy of an NBC affiliate in Eureka, California!).

Guided by some cringe-inducing banter between hosts Katie Couric and Willard (loves the very young ladies) Scott, this particular Thanksgiving Day Parade offers the usual flotilla of floats, clowns, off-key high school marching bands, baton twirlers and of course your then-favorite character B A L L O O N S (Woody Woodpecker; Betty Boop (I think Willard has a woody for this one); Pink Panther; Raggedy Anne; Bart Simpson and more). And this parade is chock full of top Grade-A talent: John Schneider (!) SINGS! Kelsey Grammar SINGS! Keith Carradine SINGS! Joey Lawrence (‘memba him?) SINGS! Susan Anton (‘memba her?) SINGS! (and taking a nod from Willard, one of the VHS Rewind (loves the very young ladies) co-hosts (yes, it’s Christopher) swoons over Susan. And so much more incredible talent is on display (PC Quest (‘memba them?) (look them up if you don’t ‘member). And what is a Thanksgiving Day Parade without a depressing song from the then-Broadway show MISS SAIGON?!?! This parade abounds with so many great fashions. Given that this is the Thanksgiving Day parade, and Christmas is less than a month away, the commercials in between the parade are curiously not-Xmas-ey in flavor (some are, but most are about Cotton (!) (with an incredible earworm song sung by Richie Havens(!), unemployment in America (!!), Gameboys, Nintendo, Vaseline(!!!!) with no Xmas flavor whatsoever.

They were also impressed with the direction of the film, which was helmed by Rob Reiner. They noted that Reiner’s background in comedy and his previous work as an actor and director allowed him to expertly balance the film’s humor and heart. The film’s mockumentary style, which presented Spinal Tap as a real band with real problems, was also praised for its authenticity and attention to detail. Hasler and Jeacoma commented on how the film was able to capture the spirit of the rock and roll world, while still managing to be a hilarious and entertaining satire.

Overall, VHS Rewind’s review of “This is Spinal Tap” was incredibly positive, and it reflected the film’s enduring legacy as a cult classic and a seminal work of comedy. The film has since gone on to influence countless other mockumentaries and rock and roll satires, and it continues to be celebrated for its hilarious performances, memorable music, and expert direction.

Hold on to your rosary bleeds (yes, those rosary bleeds) as VHS Rewind! revisits a childhood favorite: THE CANNONBALL RUN, the flick featuring the most star-studded “…group of highway scofflaws and degenerates ever gathered together in one place…”

God is the co-host (although he doesn’t have a mic in this episode) as Mark and Chris look at this politically incorrect ode to drinking while driving one hundred miles over the speed limit, which is filled to the brim with racist (Jamie Farr’s Arab complete with Arab theme music; Jackie Chan as an Asian stereotype in the making, complete with oriental theme music) and sexist humor. 

Does the flick still hold up all these years later? Is Roger Moore still the funniest thing about the movie or is Mel Tillis f-f-f-f-funnier? Of the two, who is better looking: Adrienne Barbeau or Tara Buckman? Why does Dean Martin look soooooo f*cked up? Which car in this flick is the coolest?

Buckle up (actually, none of the drivers in this movie buckles up so why should you?) as we answer all of these questions and more.

Magical Mystery Tour first aired on December 26, 1967, 54 years ago today!

Naturally, we prefer that listeners jump right in but maybe we can give you some SNEAK PREVIEWS to scare up your interest: this Halloween episode will be a little different as we spend time AT THE MOVIES. This episode will focus on songs (yes, with vocals) from horror flicks from the 1980s (maybe one from the 1990s). There are some obvious choices, of course: Freddy, Jason & Michael are represented but we have other perhaps more obscure horror flicks covered as well (if anything, maybe the songs themselves are less known than the movie they appear in). From main title songs, to end title songs, to songs that are genuinely creepy, to songs that are, like, what-the-hell-is-that-song-doing-in-a-horror-movie (looking at you, HALLOWEEN: CURSE OF MICHAEL MYERS), from disco songs  to country songs to songs with an extended kazoo solo(!), these songs will have you howling at the moon this Halloween (or any other time of the year). Nothing says “Christmas 2020” more than a movie filled with gratuitous nudity, the torture of children by sadistic Catholic nuns, lots of shag carpeting and wood paneling, mommy being raped by Santa in front of the kids, no less than two Santas being shot dead in front of orphaned children…and toys, lots of great toys in the background of certain scenes. VHS Rewind! hopes that you will sit around the Christmas tree, with egg nog in one hand and an axe in the other and listen to this very special holiday treat. Merry Xmas, and God Bless us, everyone.

But it burns no less brightly) chock full of Christmas music, Christmas editorials, Christmas comedy, Christmas tears, letters to Santa, and very special holiday wishes to you from a cavalcade of guest stars (we are not telling you who – you have to unwrap this episode by listening to find out although we will say this about one such guest star: only Lou Reed can wish everyone a Happy Holidays and make it sound like something off his BERLIN LP). In addition, it always seems like the New Years holiday plays second fiddle to the Christmas holidays and is otherwise generally forgotten (New Years is to Christmas what Joe Besser is to Moe and Larry; or, wait, wait, maybe New Years is to Christmas what Candy Candido is to Bud Abbott) so we wanted to rectify that and include some festive New Years holiday songs too.

And speaking of the New Year, VHS Rewind! wants to wish all of our listeners and FB members a very Happy, Merry & Wilbury-est Holidays and, to paraphrase the honorable Colonel Sherman T. Potter:

Who else is in the nearly forgotten film? How about Anne Ramsey who plays the shotgun wielding neighbor and is easily the same character she portrayed in Throw Mama From the Train. We also have a very young Kristy Swanson who looks lovely until…she’s ya know….dead.

When Whiz Kids first aired I was 10, was really into the BASIC programming language, creating my own games, learning about BBS systems using my 300 baud modem for my Commodore 64. I quickly outgrew the Commodore and received an IBM PC which I would use for many years. I owned (and still do) many computers, Apple II, Apple IIC, Apple IIGS, TRS-80, Commodore 128, Atari 400 and 800, etc etc – right now I am writing this on a Windows 10 machine powered by an AMD Ryzen 7 processor with 32gb of RAM, Navi RX 5000 video card, liquid cooling and many other little amazing things that allow me to edit all of my podcasts, video and anything else needed.  Why am I going off on this tangent? Well, because I have been interested in computers since I was in 2nd grade, Whiz Kids came around at a time when I wanted to learn more about what a computer could do and the show absolutely fed my dopey head with fun ideas.  I will always appreciate Whiz Kids and Matthew Labyorteaux’s role as Richie Adler. My goal in life at 10 was to own a RALF computer which was a Frankenstein-type of monstrosity with an IMSAI PCS 80/30 computer at the heart but what I really wanted was all those cool blinking lights. I think the desire to own such a complicated machine birthed my love of vintage modular HIFI stereo equipment, recording devices from 1960’s and 70’s, my collection of vintage synthesizers, guitars, amps and a lot more that my wife will one day try to get me to part with. I only hope I can convince my son to fall in love with these items so they don’t end up in a garage sale (my 1978 Gibson Les Paul Custom for $65 is a fear).

Today, my recording setup is not unlike RALF, I use a Mackie digital mixer, Focusrite Scarlett audio interface, Shure SM7B microphone – I have XLR cables routed everywhere and other wires aplenty and I would never have it any other way! When I fire up my recording computer and get on the line with Chris, Kim, Leah or one of the many people who take the time to discuss all of these wonderful shows with me, I feel RALF is alive in my setup, I might not have the Intel 8080 processor from the IMSAI powering my Mac but deep within the Intel i7’s multi-cores is the power behind RALF.

I am now officially rambling so I am just going to conclude with this, Whiz Kids left an impression on me and was very important to my development and perhaps it even taught me to WANT things! I will always cherish this light-hearted crime drama about nerdy hackers in southern California. It’s a sweet and worthwhile show.

One of the most fascinating by-products of the phenomenal success of STAR WARS was the proliferation of music knock-offs based on, or inspired by, the film, the film’s music, its characters, or even just the space setting. Naturally, Disco tracks were most prominent (it was 1977, after all), but a little digging uncovers other genres that wanted to cash in on that STAR WARS ka-ching (funk, R&B, country!) and a few genres that we at VHS Rewind cannot categorize).

So we have created this alternate presentation of the STAR WARS story for your listening pleasure: we have the narrative of the plot (courtesy of a vintage read-along book – like BEATLEMANIA, an incredible simulation of your favorite characters) and cherry-picked a soundtrack comprised of these music knock-off tracks.

“Tales from the Darkside is a 1980s American anthology horror TV series created by George A. Romero. Debuting in October 1983 with a pilot episode and then being picked up for syndication in September 1984, the show ran for 4 seasons through July 1988. Each episode, aired originally by Tribune Broadcasting late at night, was an individual short story that often ended with a plot twist. The series’ episodes spanned the genres of horror, science fiction, and fantasy, and some episodes featured elements of black comedy or more lighthearted themes.”

“A struggling young jazz dancer meets up with two break-dancers. Together they become the sensation of the street crowds.”

During 1986, the original principal cast reunited for a pilot movie for a new NBC series to be named The Greatest American Heroine, which did not result in a new series, and the pilot was never broadcast by NBC. Ultimately, the pilot was re-edited as an episode of the original series (complete with original opening credits and theme), and added to syndication sets of the original series aired on several local television stations in the late 80s, for which it is the final episode. Immediately after the beginning credits, the episode’s title card is superimposed over a nighttime view of the Los Angeles skyline, reading “The Greatest American Hero” before appending the letters “i n e” individually to the sound of the NBC chimes. The chimes were a nod to NBC and its president, Brandon Tartikoff, who had expressed interest in reviving the series.

The pilot movie reveals that several years after the final episode, Ralph’s secret identity was finally revealed to the public, resulting in his becoming a celebrity. This angers the aliens who gave him the suit, and they charge him with finding a new hero to wear the costume and use its powers for fighting evil. Once the transfer is made, they explain, all memory of Ralph’s exploits will be purged from the world’s memory and remembered only by Ralph, Pam, and Bill.

Bill begins their search by researching people with desired hero qualities, but Ralph finds a young woman named Holly Hathaway (Mary Ellen Stuart), an elementary school teacher who spends her off-hours time looking for lost kittens, raising environmental awareness, and serving as a foster mother. Bill, Pam, and Ralph meet in the desert, where Ralph tells Bill about Holly. He reacts visibly to his new partner being a “skirt” before Holly arrives, flying in wearing a new version of the suit made for her, and she pledges to help Bill. The original trio say their final farewells, and even the stoic Maxwell reveals his true emotions as he says goodbye to Ralph and calling Pam a trooper—”…one of the best!” Holly reacts emotionally to the fond farewells, but breaks the somber mood as she accidentally pulls the door off of Bill’s sedan.

The rest of the episode deals with her learning how to use the suit with Bill Maxwell’s guidance, and the pair trying to develop a working relationship. It ends with Holly talking to her foster daughter about Bill, saying he is a good person; Bill, overhearing what she says about him, speaks into a recorder he uses as his “diary” to suggest that maybe she is the right person to wear the suit after all.

A brother and sister (Shannon Presby and Lori Loughlin) lose their parents in a tragic accident, and are sent to live with relatives in Florida. They are repeatedly bullied and traumatized by the local yahoo played wickedly by James Spader. What follows is a late night showdown at an empty carnival between good and evil, all in the name of survival. Lori Loughlin delivers a decent performance, as well does Shannon Presby as her very protective brother. However, James Spader’s convincing performance is pure evil, at its best. As far as bully films go, this is one of the best.

Conan the Barbarian (1981) Made in 1981, but delayed until May of 1982 due to various cuts, mostly for violence, Conan the Barbarian was a decent hit, and made all concerned a good chunk of money, and, while it also may have spawned a series of inferior knock offs, it stands out as probably the best of the Sword and Sorcery genre, mostly because it takes itself seriously, and had the budget to back it up. The star of the movie is, of course, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and while the film is not quite the combination of quips and violence we come to expect from an Arnoldfest, his charm is undeniable.

So, with that in mind, join Mark and David as they discuss, and disagree, but also discover the warmth of friendship, the passion of love, and the wisdom of one who has suffered, all while watching a film which has what is sorely lacking today. A quote by Nietzsche.

Wonderbug (1976) Made in the waning days of the Krofft empire, Wonderbug still stands out as a quite entertaining little diversion. With each episode running at around 10+ minutes, and functioning as basically a Human cartoon, Wonderbug is the story of thee teenagers in their late 20’s who discover a magic horn that they attach to a rotted out old dune buggy, which, when honked, turns it into the magical, red, sometimes full size, sometimes plastic toy, sometimes hand puppet, Schlepcar! As stated before, the episodes are short, so they rarely outstay their welcome, despite the general silliness of the premise.

So, join Mark and David as they get nostalgic about all things Krofft, and delve deep into the lost (as in Land of the) classic from the 70’s, Wonderbug!

VHSRewind! – Kingdom of the Spiders (1977)

With this week’s episode, VHS Rewind is correcting a major faux pas: we have never before tackled any of the output of one of the shining stars of our youth: Mr. Captain Kirk/T.J Hooker himself, William Shatner. The Shat was always around while we were growing up in the 1970s/1980s, not just because of STAR TREK and, later, T.J. HOOKER but because Shat was everywhere on TV: BARBARY COAST was another show he did which we watched because, well, Captain Kirk was on it; guest spots on every show we watched as kids: SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN; BARNABY JONES; HAWAII 5-O; IRONSIDE, KUNG FU; and guest spots on every tv show we didn’t watch as kids (PIONEER WOMAN, anyone? POLICE SURGEON??). Then there were some incredible TV movies like HORROR AT 37,000 FEET, DISASTER ON THE COASTLINER and the classic PRAY FOR THE WILDCATS (with that once of a lifetime cast of Andy Griffith (playing the dangerous psychotic for a change) + Shat + Robert Reed + Marjoe Gortner (!!) + Angie Dickinson & Lorraine Gary. Folks may forget that Shat’s theatrical features include more than the STAR TREK motion pictures: THE DEVIL’S RAIN; THE KIDNAPPING OF THE PRESIDENT; VISITING HOURS; AIRPLANE II: THE SEQUEL and, the subject our episode, KINGDOM OF THE SPIDERS. KINGDOM OF THE SPIDERS is part of the subgenre of films we love: the nature-runs-amok-and-strikes-back genre which includes DAYS OF THE ANIMALS (all animals attack); FROGS (frogs attack); NIGHT OF THE LEPUS (giant bunnies attck); SSSSSSS (sssssnakessss attack); PHASE IV (little ants attack): EMPIRE OF THE ANTS (giant ants attack); a few movies about bees attacking; SQUIRM (somehow, worms attack); and yes, you know JAWS, JAWS 2 etc. In this one, we get to see spiders attack. If the Shat seems to be dialing his Shatner-ness back somewhat (this isn’t the Shatner of STAR TREK V), remember that the Shat remains a singular actor and he gives us a lot to talk about. Shat certainly has a way with the ladies in this flick – part Donald Trump, part Pepe Le Peu, all creepy, sleazy sexual predator. We hope you take a listen to this week’s episode so you can hear our thoughts about KINGDOM OF THE SPIDERS and where, in the pantheon of spider flicks this one falls: is it as good as 1955’s TARANTULA? No but that 1955 flick is a personal, nostalgic favorite. Is KINGDOM OF THE SPIDERS as unintentionally funny as 1975’s THE GIANT SPIDER INVASION? No, alas. Does KINGDOM OF THE SPIDERS feature incredible rock-n-roll songs like 1958’s EARTH VS THE SPIDER. No, but there are plenty of songs in KINGDOM OF THE SPIDERS and we play every damn one of ‘em on the show because they are amazing.

VHS Rewind’s Deezen-palooza continues with the product placement heaven known as MIDNIGHT MADNESS. No kidding, a drinking game can be made out of the egregious product placement this movie: just take a drink of your favorite alcoholic beverage (ideally, Pabst Blue Ribbon) every time a product or a product name (and that product/product name can be just about anything – an automobile, a beverage, video game, a location (a restaurant; a hotel) appears (in whole or in part) in a frame of this film and, come tomorrow, you will not remember blacking out at about the halfway point of this movie.

MIDNIGHT MADNESS was apparently produced by the Walt Disney Company (and yes, there is a product appearance / mention of a Disney character in here – take a drink!) although the Disney name is not mentioned in the product credits. The flick is a starring vehicle for then-Dr Pepper pitchman David Naughton (and yes, there is a Dr Pepper appearance in the flick – take a drink!) and a whole slew of other actors/actresses you have never seen before or since (although you may be surprised by which of the one or two actors/actresses who have continued to get work consistently since MIDNIGHT MADNESS).

This week our hosts at VHS Rewind lament that, as a vehicle for our man, Eddie Deezen, well, Eddie gets a bit lost in the sea of characters and subplots throughout this movie but, when Eddie is on-screen, it is Deezen gold.

Our hosts talk at length about Michael J Fox, who has his first movie role in this flick. There is no hint of the Michael J Fox we would all come to know and love. You may say it is the director’s fault for Fox failing to make an impression (there are a few bizarre scenes that are specifically about and involve Fox’s character and Fox has no dialogue whatsoever (did it end up on the cutting room floor?)). Our hosts make the case that, in those scenes where Fox is allowed to speak, he sounds a big drugged (or, perhaps, blitzed on Pabst Blue Ribbon).

Due to unprecedented demand. Because our audience asked for it. VHS Rewind is covering another Hal Needham flick. Our previous episode, spotlighting director Hal Needham’s incredible RAD, was one of VHS Rewind’s all-time most downloaded episodes. RAD, the film, was a really great surprise for us – we hadn’t seen it before deciding to cover it for the show, and, wow, it was just amazing. Listen to that episode to hear all about it. The great thing is, there are still quite a few films from Needham’s golden (directorial) period (that period beginning in 1977 with the classic SMOKEY AND THE BANDIT and lasting through BODY SLAM in 1986) that we at VHS Rewind haven’t seen. We cannot wait to tackle BODY SLAM and, especially, THE VILLAIN (1979). Our focus for this episode is Needham’s equally incredible MEGAFORCE (1982). We at VHS Rewind remember the poster for this flick from when it was first released (and we were just kids) but we never did see this (not even when the flick was released to VHS). Now, we can’t wait to show it to our kids. MEGAFORCE may be missing RAD’s incredible soundtrack of power ballads and power guitar, but it surpasses RAD’s already inspired lunacy – a romantic skydiving scene (yes, you read that right, complete with syrupy love music, and that almost 5 minutes) that rivals (no, that betters) RAD’s bike dance-off, flying motorcycles so memorably executed with the cheesiest effects work imaginable, an incredible lycra (?) wardrobe for the titular team, explosions, explosions, explosions and a great cast filled with terrible actors delivering terrible dialogue terribly (with the notable exception of Henry Silva, a sterling example of a great actor have a great time with a terrible script and retaining his dignity against all odds).

RAD has always been an important movie to me – in my adult years it reminds me of my youth while at the same time when I was a kid it taught me how to be independent and basically jump on my bike and explore. Great movie and all should watch it!

Ghost Story (1981) Some supernatural revenge should be visited upon the filmmakers for this travesty of a film.

We at VHS Rewind feel that Peter Straub’s novel, Ghost Story, upon which this film is (shall we say, loosely) based, is one of the great horror novels of all time. It has the scope and heft of one of those bricks produced by Stephen King (Salem’s Lot; It; The Tommyknockers; etc.) but is much more literate and creepy and atmospheric.

VHS Rewind is only too happy to dedicate our latest episode discussing why this film is a damn shame, a missed opportunity of epic proportions, from top to bottom.

The raping of Straub’s novel is just the first (albeit the most egregious) of the movie’s sins. Then there is the unforgivable error of casting Craig Wasson: why did people cast this utterly talentless individual? This is the man who would go on to single handedly destroy Brian DePalma’s BODY DOUBLE (1984). An actor with less charisma (and, apparently, a smaller dick) would be very hard to find.

We are VHS Rewind were relieved to discover Craig Wasson seems to have stopped getting work after 2006. Is it us or does Craig Wasson look like a bastard cross between Bill Maher and Robert Englund (with none of the talent of even Mr. Englund)?

And what of the famed Chowder Society? For an old-timer like myself, it is great to see this quartet of octogenarians (the great John Houseman; the great Fred Astaire; Douglas Fairbanks Jr (I guess he was great, but who was he?); and Melvyn Douglas (I guess he was great, but who was he?) but neither the director (John Irvin) nor the screenwriter (Lawrence D. Cohen) do these actors any favors.

VHS Rewind is also only too happy to expound (and at length) upon the virtues of the film’s one shining star: actress Alice Krige, who plays the sexy-as-all-get-out vengeful ghost. This is meant as a compliment but Ms. Krige’s copious nudity is surpassed by her acting here: she does portray an especially menacing supernatural entity.

We hope you will join VHS Rewind for this seance where we wish evil retribution upon the filmmakers responsible for 1981’s GHOST STORY.

Psycho II (1983) Yeah, yeah, we know, we get it, we understand,

Hitchcock/PSYCHO, Hitchcock= PSYCHO, Hitchcock is PSYCHO, even more than Tony Perkins’ Norman Bates.

Fuck Hitchcock. Forget Hitchcock. It’s old, he’s old, you’re a poseur to talk Hitchcock, Hitchock this, Hitchcock that.

Dude, whatever. I’m more impressed if you champion the lesser-known, the hardly-known-at-all things: Corky Siegel’s Chamber Blues, Vietnamese iced coffee over anything at Starbucks, xerox printed fanzines from the late 1980s / early ’90s over digital musings of the faceless internet, Spider-Man as drawn by artist Ross Andru throughout the 1970s over Spider-Man as drawn by artist Steve Ditko in the 1960s, PSYCHO II over PSYCHO. I can count on the fingers of one hand how many times I have watched the original PSYCHO but PSYCHO II, on the other hand, is, like, well, double digits. Lots of double digits. #polydactylism This is one of the greatest sequels ever made, its ROAD WARRIOR great, 1978’s DAWN OF THE DEAD great (I hate how I actually have to qualify which one I mean because of the abominable remakes/reboots/reruns that are a daily part of our lives nowadays, already deadened by rampant shootings and Donald-Trump-for-president-for-real), STAR TREK II: THE WRATH OF KHAN ferchrissakes.

This week, VHS Rewind hosts Chris and Mark will have you doubting your sanity with their black-is-white, white-is-black, through-the-looking-glass, PSYCHO II over the original PSYCHO babble.

Few things are more “1980s” than 1987’s vampire flick THE LOST BOYS. Everything about THE LOST BOYS is so firmly entrenched in this decade, from the cast of then-young actors (the two Coreys (Haim & Feldman), Kiefer Sutherland, Jamie Gertz, Jason Patric (who?)); the fashions; the soundtrack; the make-up effects. So how does THE LOST BOYS hold up? Is it as timeless as, well, a vampire? Who are hotter: the vampires of THE LOST BOYS or the vampires from the TWILIGHT series? Is Jamie Gertz’s (non)acting proof that she is, in fact, one of the undead? Join VHS Rewind as our hosts, Chris and Mark, revisit THE LOST BOYS and once again get lost in the shadows to find definitive answers to those questions and also find themselves incapable of stopping themselves from bursting into several songs from THE LOST BOYS soundtrack (although neither host takes his shirt off and starts playing the saxophone). She is still hot. Unbelievable. Forty-plus years later, she is still smoking hot. She still does it to the hosts of VHS Rewind, just one look and VHS Rewind’s middle-aged-viagra-starved libido is suddenly ten years old again, awake, eager. We speak, of course, of that goddess (literally and figuratively), Isis. Joanna Cameron. Before Farrah Fawcett was on Charlie’s Angels, Joanna Cameron had the most amazingly gorgeous tan on television. To think that this was Saturday morning (childrens) television: surely, the hosts of VHS Rewind were not the only ones who broke his cherry with this show. We at VHS Rewind simply can not, will not speak ill of ISIS (the show). It is just too important a part of out childhood. Every minute, every second, is our youth, re-lived. The magic spell that Joanna Cameron intones to become The Might Isis, the narration over the opening credits…we really do gain back some years just by watching this show. John VHS Rewind as our hosts relive their innocence lost when they revisit the Saturday morning classes ISIS.

VHS Rewind! discussed another controversial reboot from the 1980’s! Starring Ron Glass and Demon Wilson is the forgettable The NEW Odd Couple. Taking a seemingly random episode from the 1970’s classic and redoing it shot for shot and word for word may have seemed like a good idea to someone, but he was alone – oh yeah – they made the main characters African American. Even for 30+ years ago this was a stale idea. Lasting for an impressive 18 episode season it never made it to Season 2.

Season 2 Episode 5

The Bing Crosby Merrie Olde Christmas (1977)

After the exuberant, life-affirming, Christmas-is-here holiday cheer provided by the Osmond family on our last episode, the BING CROSBY MERRIE OLDE CHRISTMAS simply sucked every ounce of life and good cheer from your estimable VHS Rewind hosts. We thought the mix of the Christmas season with Bing (Mr. White Christmas himself) Crosby would yield at leats an hour of perfectly pleasant Christmas carols (if nothing else) but Bing and his producers throw us a curve by not only giving us a Christmas special that is devoid of any Christmas spirit but by having Bing and his talent-less family pack their bags and go to England for the duration of the program(!)…we are treated not to the kind of kitsch that was a hallmark of the Osmond special but some rather dry, droll (veddy veddy droll) british humor(!)…Bing not only has a conversation with (the ghost of) Charles Dickens but Twiggy (yes, Twiggy) has an extended musical number where she essays a few of Dickens’ better known characters…an excruciating 50 minute program is enlivened by a few small (very few, very small) bits including an appearance by David Bowie, some hilarious jibes at former Crosby partner Bob Hope, terrible line readings by the Crosby family members, a few pleasantly sung christmas carols…Bing filmed this program in Sept 1977 and was dead by the time this puppy aired in November 1977…it damned near killed us at VHS Rewind…

Season 2 Episode 4

The Osmonds Christmas Special (1976)

VHS Rewind continues bringing on the Xmas cheer as we visit with the Osmond family circa 1976 and The Osmond Family Christmas Special. The gang’s all here including Donny and Marie and the other, less talented Osmond brothers (after spending an hour watching this show we still cant remember all of their names), even Mom and Dad Osmond join in the festivities (Mom Osmond even plays saxophone!). As an extra special present, the Osmond brood is joined by Andy Williams (of course) and the always incredible Paul Lynde. Join VHS Rewind for christmas carols, lame comedy bits, wacky fashion sense, bad comb-overs, and even a cheesy mustache, all in the inimitable Osmond family style..

Season 2 Episode 3

The Bill Cosby Show (1969)

Celebrating Xmas 1969…A shockingly young, post-I-SPY, pre – Huxtables, no laugh track Bill Cosby brings his inimatable style of xmas cheer (a mix of is-that-really-funny jokes and saccharine drama) to old man who already has a chip on his shoulder by getting him fired from his job as an Xmas tree seller…Cos is helping the kids at the local community organization to decorate the xmas tree (cue cos and kids-say-the-funniest?-things scene) but cos is a little too intent on keeping his date plans for the evening to stay & dress up as Santa for the kids so he enlists the old man with the chip on his shoulder to dress as Santa for the kids…someone soon learns the true meaning of xmas…and cos gets to keep his date plans…
